Calcium formate, the calcium salt derived from formic acid, is synthesized through the reaction of carbon monoxide and calcium hydroxide or formaldehyde with a calcium compound in an aqueous solution. This versatile compound serves as an essential aggregate for cementitious building materials and as an additive for processing oil emulsions.
Properties:Calcium formate is slightly hygroscopic with a mildly bitter taste. It is neutral, non-toxic, and soluble in water. Its aqueous solution remains neutral, and the solubility is relatively stable with temperature changes, being 16g/100g water at 0ºC and 18.4g/100g water at 100ºC.
Construction/Industrial Grade Calcium Formate
In the construction industry, calcium formate acts as a rapid cement solidification agent, lubricant, and early strength agent for building mortar and various concrete types. It accelerates the hardening of cement and shortens setting times. Particularly in winter, it mitigates slow condensation due to low temperatures. As an early-strength agent, it allows cement to strip quickly and gain strength rapidly, enabling faster utilization. Usage increases as temperatures drop, and even a minimal application of 0.3-0.5% in summer yields significant early-strength effects.
Feed Grade Calcium Formate
As an innovative feed additive, calcium formate enhances livestock and poultry growth rates. Including calcium formate in piglet feed promotes appetite and reduces diarrhea rates.
