Calcium formate, the calcium salt of formic acid, is synthesized via the reaction of carbon monoxide and calcium hydroxide, or by formaldehyde interacting with a calcium compound in an aqueous solution. This versatile compound finds its use as an aggregate in cementitious building materials and an additive in processing oil emulsions.
Properties:Slightly hygroscopic with a mildly bitter flavor. It is neutral, non-toxic, and water-soluble. Its aqueous solution remains neutral. Notably, the solubility of calcium formate remains relatively stable with temperature changes, being 16g/100g water at 0ºC and 18.4g/100g water at 100ºC.
Construction/ Industrial Grade Calcium Formate
In construction, it serves as a rapid cement solidification agent, lubricant, and early-strength agent for building mortar and various concretes. It accelerates cement hardening, reducing setting times. Particularly valuable in winter, calcium formate prevents delays due to low temperatures. As an early-strength agent, it facilitates quick cement stripping and early utilization. The dosage of calcium formate is adjusted with temperature drop, showing significant early-strength effects even with 0.3-0.5% application in summer.
Feed Grade Calcium Formate
A novel feed additive, calcium formate enhances the weight of livestock and poultry. In piglet feed, it stimulates appetite and decreases diarrhea rates. Incorporating 1.5% calcium formate in piglet feed post-weaning boosts growth rates by over 12% and improves feed conversion by 4%.

Dosage: For dry mortar and concrete, the recommended usage is 0.5-1.0% per ton, with a maximum of 2.8%. As temperatures drop, increase the amount. Even in summer, adding 0.2-0.5% yields early strength benefits. The primary advantage is that it does not corrode steel and is environmentally friendly.
Ideal for cementation in oil drilling.
Serves as an additive for petroleum and natural gas exploration, and is effective in well completion and oil drilling cementation.
Extensively used in the leather industry as a masking agent during the chrome-tanning process.
In tannage formulation, calcium formate ensures faster, more efficient chrome penetration in leather. It can also act as a substitute for formic acid in the pickling process.
