Calcium formate, the calcium salt of formic acid, is synthesized through the reaction of carbon monoxide and calcium hydroxide or formaldehyde with calcium compound in an aqueous solution. This versatile compound finds applications as an aggregate in cementitious building materials and as an additive for processing oil emulsions.
Properties:Calcium formate is slightly hygroscopic with a faintly bitter taste. It is neutral, non-toxic, and water-soluble. Its aqueous solution remains neutral, with solubility marginally affected by temperature variations, dissolving 16g/100g in water at 0ºC and 18.4g/100g in water at 100ºC.
Construction/Industrial Grade Calcium Formate
In construction, calcium formate serves as a cement rapid solidification agent, lubricant, and early strength enhancer. It accelerates cement hardening and shortens setting times, particularly beneficial in winter to counteract slow condensation due to low temperatures. As an early-strength agent, it facilitates quick cement stripping, allowing for rapid utilization. The required amount of calcium formate increases as temperatures decrease, yet even in summer, a 0.3-0.5% addition significantly enhances early strength.

As an innovative feed additive, calcium formate aids in weight gain for livestock and poultry. When added to piglet feed, it enhances appetite and reduces diarrhea rates. Ideal for cementation in oil drilling.
Serves as an additive for petroleum and natural gas exploration, and is effective in well completion and oil drilling cementation.
