Calcium formate, the calcium salt of formic acid, is synthesized via the reaction of carbon monoxide and calcium hydroxide or formaldehyde with calcium compounds in aqueous solutions. This versatile compound is utilized in various applications such as an aggregate in cementitious building materials and as an additive for processing oil emulsions.
Properties:Calcium formate showcases a slightly hygroscopic nature and a faintly bitter flavor. It is neutral, non-toxic, and water-soluble. Its aqueous solution remains neutral, with solubility relatively stable across temperatures: 16g/100g water at 0ºC and 18.4g/100g water at 100ºC.
Construction/Industrial Grade Calcium Formate
In construction, calcium formate serves as a cement rapid solidification agent, lubricant, and early strength agent for building mortar and various concrete types. It accelerates cement hardening, reducing setting time, which is especially beneficial in winter to counteract low-temperature-induced slow condensation. As an early-strength agent, it expedites cement stripping, ensuring early usability. The required amount of calcium formate increases with temperature decrease, with a 0.3-0.5% application in summer still yielding significant early-strength effects.

Calcium formate can act as a cement quick coagulant, lubricant, and early strength agent. It accelerates cement hardening, shortens coagulation time, and is particularly effective in winter construction to prevent slow condensation due to low temperatures. It enhances cement strength, ensuring early workability, and serves as an accelerator in concrete bases.
Acts as an accelerator for cement-based dry mortars.
Dosage: For dry mortar and concrete, use 0.5-1.0% per ton, with a maximum of 2.8%. The lower the temperature, the higher the amount needed. Even in summer, adding 0.2-0.5% will significantly enhance early strength. The key advantage is that it does not corrode steel or pollute the environment.
Ideal for the cementation process in oil drilling.
Utilized as additives for exploring petroleum and natural gas, as well as for well completion or cementation in oil drilling.
Calcium formate is widely used in the leather industry as a masking agent during the chrome-tanning process.
Adding calcium formate to the tannage formulation ensures faster and more efficient chrome penetration in the leather. It can also replace formic acid in the pickling operation.
